Statement for Euromit 2020 scientific meeting
The coronavirus (COVID-19) is responsible for major disruption in many parts of the world at present and we understand the concerns that many delegates registered for Euromit 2020 will have about international travel at this time. For this reason, we have taken the decision to postpone Euromit 2020.
Involving patients and patient charity organisations has been at the heart of Euromit 2020 and we had planned a Patient Engagement Day to complement and overlap the main scientific meeting. The potential health risks posed by attending an international conference at this time, along with the proposed overlap of the conference with vulnerable patient groups, has reinforced our decision to postpone the meeting until 2021. Please follow us @Euromit2020 or visit www.Euromit.org for updates. Full refunds will be automatically processed for all those who have registered but please note that this may take up to 30 days. Please only contact Deborah.Little@ncl.ac.uk if you have any queries after this time.
We have a duty of care to the entire mitochondrial community from across the world and must avoid unnecessary health risks for patients, scientific delegates and their families. The team at the Wellcome Centre for Mitochondrial Research in Newcastle would like to offer their thoughts to those suffering with the coronavirus outbreak at this challenging time.
Statement for Euromit 2020 patient meeting
It is with great regret that the Wellcome Centre for Mitochondrial Research and The Lily Foundation have decided to postpone the Patient Engagement Day due to take place on Tuesday 16th June 2020 in Newcastle as part of Euromit 2020.
We do not want to cause any alarm but the health and well-being of our patients and their families is of paramount importance to us. Large gatherings such as this increase the risk of transmitting the coronavirus to vulnerable patient groups and so we do not feel that it is advisable to run the event at this time.
We are hoping to reschedule the Patient Engagement Day for another time so please follow us @Euromit2020 and @lilyfoundationuk or visit www.Euromit.org for updates.
